Advanced Neurofunctional Approach to Chiropractic Care
At iON, our chiropractors don’t just crack backs. Our team takes a Neurofunctional Approach that helps us determine the most effective treatment techniques for your case. On average, our chiropractic team spends 1 hour during each treatment session to address multiple systems contributing to your symptoms. We believe our job is to get you back moving as quickly as possible and feeling better in fewer visits.
Utilizing our advanced neurofunctional approach with chiropractic care means we focus our assessment and treatment on the nervous system. Nerves are responsible for muscle activation and carrying sensory information such as pain back to the brain. By focusing on this system, our chiropractors are able to treat the root of your symptoms and provide change you can feel in real time.

WHAT IS NEUROFUNCTIONAL ACUPUNCTURE?
Neurofunctional Acupuncture is a combination of traditional and modern acupuncture techniques that utilize needles to stimulate local healing. Think of the needle as an extension of the therapist’s hands, allowing them to provide more precise and direct treatment to deep tissue structure that can not be reached by other superficial techniques.
Acupuncture needles work by increasing blood flow to the local tissue (such as muscle, fascia and nerves) that brings nutrients in and moves inflammatory waste products that contribute to pain and dysfunction out. In addition, the application of electrical stimulation (electro-acupuncture) to the surrounding muscles improves their activation resulting in increased strength and stability. Electrical stimulation can also be applied directly to the nerve to directly treat symptoms of pain and improve neuro-motor activation. When used effectively, a single technique can influence multiple systems contributing to your symptoms.
Our process focuses on assessing nerve and neuro-muscular function before and after the application of electro-acupuncture to ensure we are on target with each treatment. The application of electrical stimulation to needles in comparison to other techniques like TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation – meaning on the surface of the skin) is the ability to stimulate the nerves and muscle at greater depth, allowing us to treat the root of your pain and motor dysfunction and influence change in real time.
